Practice

Brock Carmichael Architects LLP

19 Old Hall Street , LIVERPOOL , Merseyside , L3 9JQ , United Kingdom

The YWCA Headquarters in Kowloon is a 20-storey building providing hostel and social services. The Rehabilitation Project includes refurbishment of 130 guestrooms totalling 5,200sq.m plus renovation of social services facilities totalling 4,100sq.m including a new 800sq.m annex block. Consultancy work involved repurposing a 1970s 20-storey building. The deteriorating building involved a number of challenges for its owners and occupiers but rather than demolish the building, Brock Carmichael Asia advocated complete refurbishment and an extension on both financial and sustainability grounds. Brock Carmichael Asia's work also included project management of full design and construction stages of the project, overseeing complex reconfiguration of the building interior including the addition of individual bathrooms, upgrading of lifts and major building services and associated interior design upgrades. Façade renovations include completely new curtain wall system and vertical greening.
