Sited in Greenbelt land, New Build

Practice

DSP Architecture

104c St John Street , Clerkenwell , London , EC1M 4EH , United Kingdom

Collaboration with the concept designer/client helped realise this modern new-build house on a green belt site in North London, following a protracted Appeals process. Glass walls open up at every opportunity to engage with the beautifully landscaped garden and family sized outdoor swimming pool. Internally, a large retractable glass rooflight allows light into the central atrium whilst providing cooling during the summer months. A huge monolithic fossilised stone island dominates the bespoke handmade kitchen at the heart of the house which also opens up to the garden and the external poolside eating area. The relaxed but carefully furnished living room is positioned to take full advantage of magnificent views over the garden and set piece external artworks. The fabulously fitted out master suite above has the advantage of longer views over the adjacent green fields. At this upper level, individually tailored children?s? bedrooms ? all with ensuite facilities ? ensure a practical family home whilst maintaining the house?s minimal contemporary aesthetic. Down below, in cleverly concealed basement accommodation, lies a naturally lit house keeper?s ?flat? and home office together with a fully equipped, velvet lined cinema and entertainments room. Externally, the property?s distinctive cool, white rendered upper areas float over a stone base and compliment the naturally weathering softness of the cedar garden facades.
