The initial project brief was for the extension and alterations to the existing property on the site but quickly changed to the design of a replacement dwelling on the site. Through early consultation with a contractor and the clients keen interest in contemporary construction methods the project was designed and eventually constructed using an Insulated Concrete Formwork system, with the ICF company located locally. The replacement dwelling provides 3 double bedrooms with an open plan kitchen, dining and living space with separate utility and study. Due to the ICF system the dwelling has low running costs, which when combined with an air source heat pump reduce the overall environmental impact of the dwelling which was important to both the client and the practice, which also led to the addition of a flat green roof to improve the local ecosystem.
