3 Clifford Street , LONDON , W1S 2LF , United Kingdom

A phased refurbishment of the magnificent Grade II headquarters for SMMT (Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders). Set well back in its own spacious grounds in Belgravia, the house which was built nearly 200 years ago is currently under going a phased refurbishment and upgrading programme to the offices as well as its main reception area and meeting rooms. McFarlane Latter have been working closely with the team at Forbes House to draft a strategic plan to set out a programme of proposed building repairs, alterations and improvements to be carried out in a sequenced of phased works over the next ten years. Initially phase one included the installation and upgrading of the mechanical, electrical and fire safety systems to meet current regulations and local authority conditions for granting of a Justice On-Licence. The proposal includes a detailed survey of the roof and measured survey of interior, exterior and grounds. The ongoing maintenance programme includes roof repairs, re-pointing of brick and stonework, renewal of defective rainwater goods and replacement of rotten windows and doors. The plan comprises monitoring key structural elements, including external walls, beams, openings and floor structure over a period of time. Internally the programme will incorporate the refurbishment of the majestic entrance and imposing staircase and ground floor function rooms. A considered approach allows proposals to respect the many original features, whilst incorporating modern facilities expected of a unique venue. The programme will include the assessment of the office areas, including space utilization and workstation assessment based on current and future headcount and will be able to incorporate any organizational changes.
