2nd Floor New Mill , Conway Mill , 5-7 Conway Street , Belfast , County Antrim , BT13 2DE , United Kingdom

The site, located outside Ballinderry in County Antrim, presently consists of a dwelling and garage surrounded by farmland and mature woodland. To the north of the site is the main access road – Hillhead Road. To the East views extend across the fields and hedge rows toward Ballinderry town and the old church spire. The south side of the site is bordered by a thick line of mature trees. To the west view extend out towards Lough Neagh, beyond which the Sperrin Mountains can be seen. The brief, as set out by the client, asked for the diversification of an existing dwelling set within the surrounding farmland and landscape of the Hillhead area in Co. Antrim. The diversification projects core concept is to create a centre for recreational and well–being activities such as yoga, counselling and pottery making. The aim for the project is to evolve over time and become a retreat where the users can come and stay for a number of days. The client has split these aims into two phases. Phase one’s core aims is to create a yoga studio, pottery workshop, and counselling/treatment suite. The yoga and pottery should be designed to capacitate a maximum of 8 users at any given time. Phase two would include a new building and/or a collection of small buildings throughout the landscape that would allow users to stay overnight. It would also plan to allow users to take short walks within the surrounding woodland and landscape.
