Proposed ground, first floor extension & dormer attic conversion of terraced dwelling at No. 588 Woodview Cottages Rathfarnham. Specifically, our design involves a ground floor dining / kitchen extension, a new first floor rear return bathroom and a dormer attic conversion to provide a third bedroom. The total area of the proposed extension amounts to approximately 17m2, while the total area of the proposed dormer attic conversion is approximately 16m2. Using brick, our proposal suggests wrapping the new elements at ground and first floor. In addition, slate from the existing roof can be reused and hung in a ‘diamond’ pattern on the proposed dormer to blend the space in with the existing roof. Our proposed new elements are carefully designed to relate to the existing distinctive construction details and materials of the cottage. Internally, exposed structural timber is used to create the new spaces, whilst white brick solid walls refer to the brick front facade and internal brick formed alcoves and fireplaces.
