Alteration to existing property, Within a Conservation Area

Practice

Resonant Architecture

31 Bartlemas Road , OXFORD , OX4 1XU

Full architectural services to extend and remodel a Victorian townhouse in a historic Cambridgeshire village. The house lies within a conservation area, as a result of which tight planning conditions were imposed on the design. The ground floor of the house like many of its type suffered from a lack of daylight and cell-like layout. The solution created an open-plan kitchen dining area, benefitting from a fully glazed single storey section, linking the interior with the garden. A WC and utility room meanwhile were created at the side of the house where daylight is less plentiful. Within the house the living rooms, bathroom and bedrooms were altered, and refurbished to meet the needs of a growing family. Once planning permission was secured the practice oversaw the tender process and appointment of a contractor, and acted as Contract Administrator for the duration of the building contract.
