Stanton Andrews

44 York Street , CLITHEROE , Lancashire , BB7 2DL

Stanton Andrews liaised with the local authority which contributed to successfully gaining planning approval for this conversion. The extension was intentionally modern, allowing the original barn and extension to be clearly seen as different. The extension was clad in cedar ‘Yorkshire boarding’ which is also used on local agricultural buildings. The internal walls to the extension are dressed in handmade brickwork to reflect the bricks of the original barn. Open Views Our design solution included large wrap around windows that not only provide views across the open countryside but fully open to allow the new family room to flow into the garden. A large window to the roof fills the interior with natural light, that spills across the handmade brickwork. Green Credentials The barn also incorporates environmental considerations. The walls, floors and roof are ‘super insulated’, hot water and underfloor heating is courtesy of a ground source system and electrical services are controlled by an integrated management system. A ‘green roof’ of sedum matting finishes off this converted barn’s green credentials.
