NOTES: Galeazzo Alessi is often given credit for the design of the church but the extent of his involvement in the final design is not clear. The drawing is one of a series executed in an unidentified Italian hand, collected by Peter Paul Rubens and published in engraved form in his book 'I Palazzi di Genova' (Antwerp, 1622). The publication was divided into two parts: 'Palazzi Antichi' and 'Palazzi Moderni' (where this particular engaving appears as Fig. 63). Subsequent additions appeared in 1652 and 1663 and the book was Rubens' only work on pure architecture.
