NOTES: Gryjotaborp or 'Grjoti Village' in Reykavik is where urban development in Iceland's capital began. It began as early as 1762 on farmland, but by the middle of the 19th century there was a regular grid of streets, populated by houses like this. Usually of timber construction, with some stone-built and concrete houses among them.
