NOTES: This is a photograph of a drawing. According to a typescript memoir by Crabtree, Professor Charles Reilly, head of the School of Architecture at Liverpool, sent a copy of this drawing to Spedan Lewis, Chairman of the John Lewis Partnership. On the strength of this Lewis invited Crabtree in 1929 to make a design for the Peter Jones Department Store in Sloane Square, London, the foundation of his reputation. The whereabouts of the original drawing is unknown.
