NOTES: Although John Stirling purchased the estate in 1792 it seems construction did not begin until around 1808 when Lugar exhibited his design for Tullichewan at the Royal Academy of Arts, London, where it was described as 'now building'. The building was demolished in 1954. This engraving appeared in Robert Lugar, Plans and views of buildings (London, 1811), pl. 6.
