NOTES: Construction on this Protestant cathedral began in 1421 under the direction of the Strasbourg masterbuilder Matthaus Ensinger. The interior was not completed until 1571-1573. The bell tower, based on the tower of Ulm Cathedral, was only completed in 1889-1893 to designs by August von Beyer under the supervision of August Muller.
