NOTES: As the notes on this drawing are in Italian it is possible that it dates from the period when Cockerell was travelling in Italy, 1815-1817. This image is from a collection of designs and counter proofs of chimneypieces by Cockerell. Some of the drawings in this collection are examples of an early form of reproduction and were taken from original drawings which are now lost. The inscriptions therefore appear in mirror writing.
