Design for a parterre at Sayes Court, Deptford, London, and drawn for the projected 'Elysium Britannicum'

NOTES: This parterre was probably designed after 1660 and was formerly believed to have been intended for Evelyn's unpublished 'Elysium Britannicum', an encyclopedic work on gardening. The drawing (which may not be in Evelyn's own hand) also relates to his manuscript 'Knots, Parterres, Compartiments, Bordures, and Embossments' (Evelyn Collection, Christ Church, Oxford).
