NOTES: The architects were engaged by the Societe immobiliere de la rue de Rivoli to prepare designs for several plots in the area between the rue de Rivoli and the rue St Honore. This plot was to house the Grand Hotel du Louvre which opened in 1855 in time for the Exposition Universelle and operated until 1887. The building gradually included more and more retail space until in 1887 the hotel closed and moved across the street, leaving the entire building as a department store.
