NOTES: These drawings are part of a vellum sketchbook containing studies by Burges of Italian architecture, decoration, birds, flowers and heads. The sketches shown here include details of Burges's designs for Lord Carrington's alterations to Gayhurst House, Buckinghamshire, including a scheme showing Adam and Eve being expelled from Eden by the Archangel Michael. The panel designs to the right are sketches for the decoration of a font depicting the four ages of man, inspired by sculptures in the Ducal Palace in Venice.
