NOTES: In 1981 Ahrends Burton & Koralek undertook work on the conversion of Butterfield's library to provide additional reading rooms. Two large ground floor rooms (former junior common rooms) below the existing library were linked to the original Butterfield library above by a new spiral staircase. The rooms were then kitted out with new bookcases and furniture designed to blend in with the orignal Gothic Revival ones.
