NOTES: This drawing comes from an album entitled by Thomas Hardwick 'Sketches of sundry buildings already executed and original designs on varied subjects', which he commenced in 1773. The Temple of Bacchus was built around 1762. Hardwick exhibited a drawing 'Elevation of a temple designed for a gentleman in Hampshire' at the Royal Academy of Arts, London, in 1775 (no. 146) to which drawing number 20 possibly relates.
