NOTES: According to Hugh Stannus, Alfred Stevens's assistant, Stevens was asked in 1849 by Cockerell to make a drawing for publication of the pediment sculpture which was being executed in the studio of William Nicholl. While doing the drawing, which was later lithographed, Stevens evidently suggested and designed figures for the ends of the pediment which were incorporated into the design.
