Chichester Cathedral: detail from the panel depicting the 'Raising of Lazarus' in the south aisle of the choir

NOTES: This panel, and its companion piece, 'Christ entering the House of Mary and Martha', are executed in Purbeck stone and were only discovered in 1829. They had been used as building stones behind the choir stalls and were supposedly to have been brought from the original Saxon church at Selsey. Being Carolingian in style, they were thought to date to c.1000, but recent scholarship has dated them c.1125-1150.
