NOTES: Mellerstain House was designed by Robert Adam and built for the Baillie family in 1725-1778. The gardens with Italianate terraces were laid out in 1910 by Sir Reginald Blomfield. This drawing was exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts, London, in 1911 (1649 Bird's eye view of new gardens, from house to canal, Mellerstain, N.E.).
