NOTES:
The abbey is located on the highest point of the island and was built between the 11th and 13th centuries. The Romanesque abbey church was designed by William of Volpiano in the 11th century.The high spire of the church is crowned by a gilded figure of the Archangel Michael by Emmanuel Fremiet executed in 1895.
