Notes NOTES: Dorothy Marckwald and Anne Urquhart were part of the firm Smyth, Urquhard and Marckwald, the only women-led maritime interior design company in the world at that time. The SS United States, one of the last American transatlantic liners, was designed by William Francis Gibbs and completed in 1952.
