SOURCE: R. Ackermann. The Microcosm of London (London, 1835), vol. III, pl. 69 NOTES; The first 'musik' house was built in 1683 as a side attraction of a medicinal well that belonged to the monks of the priory of St John, Clerkenwell. A regular theatre company was engaged in 1753 and a new theatre was built in 1765. It was popular in the 1800s for its aquatic spectacles staged by Thomas Dibdin.
