NOTES: These tenements were built by several different companies from 1886-1908 following a slum clearance scheme by the Metropolitan Board of Works in 1877. Since they replaced 18th and 19th 'rookeries', they were considered model dwellings in their time. The area was radically reconstructed for the Toynbee Housing Association by Shepheard, Epstein & Hunter in 1983-1984.
