Badia Fiorentina and Palazzo del Bargello, via del Proconsolo, Florence

NOTES: Palazzo del Bargello is also known as the Palazzo del Popolo and is the oldest and second most important public building in Florence after the Palazzo Vecchio. Construction on this fortified palace began in 1256 to house the first Capitano del Popolo, and later in 1261, the Podesta'. The design of the crenellated gallery is attributed to the Domenican friars, Fra Sisto and Fra Ristoro. It opened as a national museum (Museo Nazionale del Bargello) in 1865. The Romanesque Benedictine Abbey of Florence was rebuilt in Gothic style by Arnolfo di Cambio and others between 1284 and 1310. The campanile was completed between 1310 and 1330.
