NOTES: This drawing is a modified copy of Inigo Jones's original and was made by Henry Flitcroft for Lord Burlington. This palace is the only remaining component of the Palace of Whitehall. It was built for James I specifically to provide an appropriate setting for a new and elaborate type of court entertainment, the masque.
