NOTES:
Construction on this, the principal Franciscan church in Italy, began in 1294 to a design by Arnolfo di Cambio. It was consecrated in 1422. The church interior underwent substantial alterations by Giorgio Vasari in 1560. The facade in white and green marble was designed by Niccolo' Mata between 1853 and 1863. The campanile was also a 19th century addition.
