NOTES: This lithograph was prepared for Mansions of England and Wales, Berkshire. John Walter II, proprietor of 'The Times' newspaper, built the house depicted here, designed by J. W. Sanderson. In 1853-1858 it was altered and extended to designs by Decimus Burton for the original owner's son, John Walter III - who in just a few years' time demolished the house to rebuild it (1865-1874) as a grand Victorian edifice by Robert Kerr. It is now a school.
