Notes NOTES: Located on the banks of the River Severn, this Cistercian abbey was founded in 1135. The main abbey buildings including the church, chapter house and cloisters were probably built between 1155 and 1187. The abbey was closed in 1536 during the Dissolution of the Monasteries.
