The front spires, the chapel and choir were added by 1457. The cathedral was completed in 1567 with the construction of the lantern tower and cupola by Juan de Vallejo and Juan de Castaneda.

NOTES: A Benedictine abbey was established on this site in the 10th century and it has been the coronation church of English monarchs since 1066. Construction on the present church began in 1245. The Gothic nave was begun in 1376 under Abbot Nicholas Litlyngton (d. 1386), and completed by the master mason, Henry Yevele, in the 1390s. The existing west tower was added by Hawksmoor in 1745 and the north transept refaced by Sir George Gilbert Scott in 1880-1892.
