NOTES: The Political Martyrs Monument (erected 1844) commemorates five political reformists from the late 18th and early 19th centuries. It is a 90 ft (27 m) tall obelisk on a square based plinth. The Governor's House by Archibald Elliot, bulit 1815-1817 is all that remains of the Calton Gaol, once the largest prison in Scotland.
