NOTES: Built on the site of a ruined Saxon cathedral, this cathedral was begun by Lanfranc, the first Norman archbishop, in Norman style and consecrated in 1077. The nave was rebuilt in Perpendicular in 1377-1405, but the Norman and Early English east end were left in place. Bell Harry tower, the central bell tower, also in Perpendicular style, was completed between 1494 and 1505 by John Wastell.
