NOTES: The Strahov monastery and basilica, built in 1140 in Romanesque style, became home to the Premonstratensians in 1143. The monastery was rebuilt in Gothic style after a fire destroyed the complex in 1258. The fabric of the monastery started to decline at the end of the sixteenth century and it was plundered and sacked during the 30 years war (1618-1648). After a bombardment by the French army in 1742, most of the medieval gothic buildings were rebuilt in baroque style.
