NOTES: This Hieronymite monastery was designed in Manueline style by the first Master of Works, Diogo de Biotaca. Construction began in 1502 and the monastery was completed, with interruptions, in 1571. The vast square cloister was begun by Biotaca and continued by Joao de Castilho in Plateresco style.
