NOTES: A competition for the Scott Memorial was held in 1835 but disagreement in the selection committee meant that leading artists who had not submitted proposals were invited to submit designs and Blore's design was probably one of those thus presented. The Memorial was built in 1838 to the designs of G. M. Kemp who had won third prize in the original competition.
