NOTES: Founded in 1140, this former Augustinian abbey church was elevated to cathedral status in 1542. The nave was rebuilt by George Edmund Street in 1868-1877. This drawing is amongst Godwin's papers relating to his antiquarian studies, 1849-1879, including material on Somerset churches and the architectural antiquities of Avon and Somerset, especially the cathedral, mediaeval churches and priories of Bristol. The drawing was probably part of the research Godwin did prior to the publication of his article on Bristol Cathedral and its development in the Archaeological Journal, vol. 20, 1863.
