NOTES: This seems to be an early version of the transparency prepared for Rudolph Ackermann, 'Ackermann's Transparency, Exhibited to Commemorate the Peace, June 1814'. A technique developed by Ackermann and very popular for some years, the transparency was an aquatint pasted onto glass so that light could shine through from behind. Areas which were to be transparent were coated with a chemical varnish. They were mostly used on firescreens and lampshades.
