NOTES: The building of Downside Abbey Church was begun in the late 19th century and ended with the construction of the nave after World War I. The earliest parts are the transepts by Archibald Matthias Dunn and Edward Joseph Hansom, dating from 1882. The choir (dedicated in 1905) is the masterpiece of Thomas Garner (who is buried there) while the unfinished nave is by Giles Gilbert Scott (c. 1923-25). The Lady Chapel was designed by Ninian Comper.
