NOTES: This is one of four studies by an unidentified 18th or 19th century draughtsman (possibly German). Each drawing has been inscribed with the word 'Pontormo'. The design may therefore relate to the work of Italian Mannerist artist Jacopo Pontormo (1494-1557) or to the area of Pontorme in Empoli, Tuscany.
