NOTES: This drawing is by an unidentified 19th century English architect, although the inscription at the foot of the drawing identifies William Wilkins as the architect responsible for the design of the portico. The hospital had established itself in Lanesborough House in 1733 but by the 1800s was in disrepair and required more space so the building was demolished and a new hospital arose to William Wilkins's design, begun in 1827 and completed by 1844.
