NOTES: Schultz was asked to submit designs for the cathedral in 1906 and first visited the site in 1907. The church is said to be loosely based on the architecture of the church of St Demetrios in Thessaloniki. The building was consecrated in 1912 although the roof was unfinished at the time. In 1971 the cathedral was confiscated by the Sudanese government and now serves as the Republican Palace Museum of Khartoum, although the tower, which was designed but not built until 1928, has been demolished. Some of the original furnishings designed by Weir Schultz were transferred to the new cathedral. This priest's desk was executed by Ernest Gimson.
