NOTES: The cross, built on a site that was a temporary market place during the plague, was erected by Bishop Lewis Charlton and depicts his coat of arms, a lion rampant. This drawing is in a sketchbook compiled by Repton (1798 to circa 1805) while working in the office of John Nash.
