NOTES: This tower was built by Sir Frances Dashwood as a land lighthouse to improve the safety of travellers in a notorious part of the county known for highway robbery. The lantern on the top was destroyed in a storm in 1808 and replaced in 1810 by a Coade stone statue of George III (sculptor Joseph Panzetta) to celebrate 50 years of the king's reign. This print probably dates to the l820s or early 1830s as the publisher had moved from Paternoster Row after that and Watkins, the engraver, flourished between 1823 and 1831.
