NOTES: This was one of the first steel-framed buildings in San Francisco and it survived both the 1906 and 1989 earthquakes unscathed. The Ferry Building and the central waterfront were restored after the Loma Prieta earthquake in 1989 irreparably damaged the Embarcadero Freeway which had been built across the face of the Ferry Building. It re-opened in 2003 both as a ferry terminus and shopping centre.
