NOTES: Work began on the Benedictine priory in 1085 and the interior, notably the nave, is predominantly Norman. Significant changes were made to the priory between 1400 and 1500. The central square tower was redesigned by Sir Reginald Bray in Perpendicular style in the 15th century. Sir George Gilbert Scott oversaw restoration of the church in 1860.
