NOTES: In this letter Baker writes to his wife just prior to leaving Delhi for home and tells her about a meeting with Lord Hardinge, the Viceroy, and Lady Hardinge on the New Delhi site where he and Lutyens "explained it all" to him. Then they proceeded to the Qutb Minar in Delhi (including a sketch of it at left) where "L. & I showed him all over discussing the merits & demerits of Hindu & Mughal architecture." Then Baker includes a sketch of the kind of arch the Viceroy favours.
