SOURCE: Constantin Uhde. Baudenkmaler in Grossbritannien (Berlin, 1894), vol. II, pl. 121 NOTES: The house was built for Sir Edward Phelips between 1598 and 1601.The architect is thought to have been William Arnold. However, the porch on the west front was originally part of Clifton Maybank house and dates from c. 1535. It was re-erected at Montacute House in 1786.
