NOTES: This zebra crossing was one of several types of crossing constructed by local boroughs complying with the Ministry of Transport's directive that demarcation should be by a lane of studs terminated by a Belisha beacon. This must have been one of the earliest zebra crossings in the UK, which were introduced experimentally in 1949 on 1000 sites and subsequently introduced into law in 1951.
